PORTFOLIOS, RUBRICS AND CONCEPT MAPPING


Today we are taking a look at some tools that make formative assessment possible.
As we know, formative assessment is focus on the instructional process, these tools help us to realize whether the students are learning or not, were they are having problemas and to follow the learning process


First we have Rubrics, as we know rubrics are designed to make our students understand what we expect about them and with what kind of quality. Rubrics are designed by the teacher according to his preferences, and what he think will be effective for learning.
The spider concept map, will help you to understand this tool.

Concept Mapping is for constructing, organizing and communicating knowledge. Is used a visual guide to understand a topic and make emphasis in concepts. On of his purposes is to link old knowledge with new one. There are different kinds of Maps but they share some features like: The use of figures, Lines, arrows and connect all this through linking words or phrases. The following map, is an example of how to use this tool and also will help you to understand how are they made of.



Finally. Portafolios are the way we collect data or products from our students. This tool will help us to observe the progress on their work. This is consider one of the purest and authentic forms of assessment. Now, the following map will help you to understand some characteristics of portafolios



While doing this maps I learnt who important are tools in the assessment process, since assessment requires evidence, this tools while provide us with resources to realize if our students are learning and how fast they are doing it

I realized of the efficiency of these techniques, because i have been doing maps, following a rubric and saving all this evidence in my electronic portfolio. I also have been learning a lot by rewriting the information.

  1. First, I think that your explanation about each tool was clear. However, I noticed some spelling mistakes that can change the meaning of your sentences. There are some words as "were" in "were they are having problemas" that affect the sense of the previous and the following sentence. On another hand, I'm not really sure about the use of "about" in the sentence "what we expect about them and... "; I think "what we expect from them..." will be accurate.

    "he thinks" as those examples I noticed that you have little problemes in grammar but you corrent them in other sentences.

    I like the forms of your concept mapas but I think, for this kind of information Concept maps must be like the portfolios' map, and do not forget the organization by levels, it is very important. However if you want to show the forms of different concept maps is better to use images as examples than use your information to do it.

  3. You can find some educational ready to use and editable concept map template(s) in the diagram community of Creately online diagramming and collaboration software. There are 100s of templates and examples there to be used online.
